Holidays: November 24-25

Last day of class December 9th.

Currently there are 7 groups performing 6 experiments. Of the 6 experiments only 3 use the shaker. We have 6 full weeks of class left until the end of the semester.

Faraday waves
  • Shaker
  • Laser line
  • Grasshopper camera
  • Liquids: Water, corn starch, oil
  • Use the circular shaker container

Plinko chaos
  • Plinko board needs to be built
  • High speed camera, Casio Exilim.
  • Position control of drop location
  • Computer for tracking

Inelastic ball
  • Shaker
  • 1D inelastic ball setup
    • mass confined to translate along a rod
    • or, bean bag
  • Conductance measurements like in Jeff's jumping experiment
  • Grasshopper camera

Chaotic dripping faucet
  • High speed camera, Casio Exilim or other if better optics needed.
  • Laser and photo-transistor device for measuring drop times.
  • Sink, (maybe set this experiment up in shop upstairs with a computer)
  • Tubes, water container (to be determined).
  • Possibly some dish soap to change surface tension.

Amir ahamid8@gatech.edu

Amin aagha3@gatech.edu

Ferrofluid
  • High speed camera. Hopefully Exilim but may need red-lake because we may need to use macro lens.
  • Small block of teflon with hole drilled in it, order from mcmaster.
  • Power supply, provided from Kip right now.
  • Helholtz coil or solenoid. From physics demo room.
  • Ferrofluid, from physics demo room.
  • Function generator, from the shaker.
  • Computer with labview. Shaker computer may be best to use for this because the shaker controller would work well for controlling the magnetic field.

Inverted pendulum
  • Inverted pendulum apparatus for shaker
  • Grasshopper of exilim.
  • Shaker.

Todo list for website

  • Add in short-url functionality
  • Latex math functionality because MathJax tends to be a little slow
  • Lab instructions
  • Add in links to papers and brief info for experiments
  • Add in last years course websites
  • Add section with useful code (bifurcation plots)
  • Upload worked homework sets
